保偏光器件(PM)的工作原理:
1)光在普通單模光纖的傳輸時,任何非對稱因素諸如纖芯的不圓度,外在應力的加載都將在光纖中引入雙折射效應導而致光的畸變,此時互相垂直的兩個偏振模態(tài)的傳輸常數(shù)是相同的。
2)在實際光傳輸中,由于光纖所受到的外界應力是隨環(huán)境和溫度的變化而不斷變化的,因此,普通光纖中的光的偏振模態(tài)是不穩(wěn)定的。但如果在光纖內部引入高雙折射效應來對抗外在的應力變化的干擾,就能維持光纖中傳輸光的偏振模態(tài)。保偏光纖正是基于這樣的原理來保持偏振光穩(wěn)定的傳輸狀態(tài)。
3)光源輸出偏振光不可能是理想的,而是有一個初始的消光比0ER,我們可以將那些不需要的光看成是背景光信號,這些背景光信號在系統(tǒng)的每一個連接處累積起來。如果我們能保證這些不需要的偏振態(tài)的光信號遠小于實際的光信號,我們就能計算通過每一個連接后的最終的輸出消光比。
3)保偏器件的目的就是在接續(xù)或者耦合兩根保偏光纖中的偏振光時盡量保持偏振光的原有的偏振狀態(tài)或者對偏振態(tài)進行某種變換。
保偏光器件(PM)的作用:
廣泛應用以及偏振復用概念的提出,保偏器件正面臨著巨大的市場潛力。PM器件有很多,比如最常見的是PM連接器,PM準直器,PM合(分)波器,退(起)偏器、偏振相關環(huán)行器、偏振相關隔離器等。
